The Slumbering Monolith

The Slumbering Monolith

1st-level Slumbering Monolith feature

(From Setting Document)

Your patron is one of the Old Ones—a vast, alien intelligence that slumbers in the void beyond reality. It might be Uloth, the Breath Between Stars, or another nameless entity. It doesn't care about you personally; you are less than an insect to it. But even the idle thoughts of such a being carry power, and you have learned to siphon that power for yourself.

Expanded Spell List

The Slumbering Monolith lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Spell Level Spells
1st dissonant whispers, fog cloud
2nd detect thoughts, silence
3rd fear, hunger of Hadar
4th black tentacles, confusion
5th dream, modify memory

Whispers of the Void

At 1st level, the Old One's whispers fill your mind. You can telepathically communicate with any creature you can see within 30 feet. The creature doesn't need to share a language with you, but it must understand at least one language.

Additionally, you learn the minor illusion cantrip if you don't already know it. When you cast it, the illusion can include incomprehensible whispers or non-Euclidean geometry that unnerves those who perceive it.

Unnatural Presence

At 1st level, you can channel your patron's alien nature. As an action, you can force each creature of your choice within 10 feet of you to make a Wisdom saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. On a failed save, a creature is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Entropic Ward

At 6th level, the Old One's attention can shield you. When a creature you can see makes an attack roll against you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on that roll. If the attack misses, you can make one weapon attack or cast a cantrip that targets only the attacker as part of the same reaction.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Reality Breach

At 10th level, you can create a small tear in reality. As an action, you can summon a rift in an unoccupied space you can see within 60 feet. The rift is a 10-foot-radius sphere that lasts for 1 minute or until you dismiss it (no action required).

The area within the rift is difficult terrain and heavily obscured. Creatures that enter the rift for the first time on a turn or start their turn there must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 3d10 psychic damage and is restrained until the start of its next turn. On a successful save, it takes half damage and isn't restrained.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Touched by the Infinite

At 14th level, your patron's power has fundamentally altered you. You gain the following benefits:

  • You don't age, and you can't be aged magically.
  • You have resistance to psychic damage.
  • You can cast detect thoughts at will, without expending a spell slot.
  • When you deal psychic damage, you can choose to make it ignore resistance and treat immunity as resistance.
