Veil Engineer

Veil Engineer

3rd-level Veil Engineer feature

Veil Engineers are artificers who have learned to manipulate the unstable dimensional energies that leak through tears in reality. They craft items that blur the line between magic and technology, powered by captured Veil phenomena. This is dangerous work—many Veil Engineers bear scars from experiments gone wrong—but the results are undeniably powerful.

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with jeweler's tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Veil Engineer Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Veil Engineer Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Artificer Level Spell
3rd detect magic, fog cloud
5th misty step, see invisibility
9th blink, gaseous form
13th dimension door, private sanctum
17th teleportation circle, wall of force

Dimensional Infusion

At 3rd level, you learn to infuse your inventions with captured Veil energy. When you infuse an item with one of your artificer infusions, you can choose to apply Dimensional Infusion to it. While the item is within 30 feet of you, attacks and spells originating from it ignore half cover and three-quarters cover.

You can have Dimensional Infusion active on a number of items equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1). If you apply it to an additional item, the effect ends on the oldest item.

Unstable Weaponry

At 5th level, you've learned to create weapons that phase partially out of reality. When a creature you can see within 30 feet of you makes a weapon attack, you can use your reaction to grant that attack advantage. If the attack hits, it deals an additional 1d6 force damage.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Veil Step

At 9th level, you can momentarily slip through the Veil. As a bonus action, you can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. Alternatively, you can use this feature to teleport to an unoccupied space you can't see, but if that space is occupied or inside a solid object, you are shunted to the nearest unoccupied space and take 2d6 force damage.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Master of Reality

At 15th level, your understanding of dimensional manipulation reaches its apex. You gain the following benefits:

  • You have resistance to force damage.
  • You can see into the Border Ethereal out to a range of 60 feet.
  • When you use your Veil Step feature, you can bring one willing creature within 5 feet of you along with you.
  • You can cast plane shift once without expending a spell slot or material components. You regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
