Choose a creature you can see within range. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 2d8 necrotic damage and is blinded until the end of your next turn as ash swirls around its eyes. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and isn't blinded.

Undead and constructs have disadvantage on the saving throw against this spell.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 1st.
