The next time you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack during the spell's duration, your weapon pulses with entropic energy. The attack deals an extra 5d8 necrotic damage, and the target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target's speed is halved, and it has disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws for the spell's duration. On a successful save, the target takes the extra damage but suffers no additional effects.

If the target is an aberration or an undead, it has disadvantage on the saving throw.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the extra damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 5th.
