Make a melee spell attack against a creature or object you can reach. On a hit, the target takes 3d8 necrotic damage. If the target is wearing armor, the armor takes a permanent −1 penalty to its AC (to a minimum of 10 + Dexterity modifier). If the armor's penalty reaches −5, it's destroyed. Nonmagical metal weapons struck by this spell suffer a similar penalty to damage rolls.
Magical armor or weapons make a saving throw against your spell save DC to avoid the penalty.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 2nd.
